Dollar General Settles Employment Race Bias Suit for $6 Million

Dollar General Corp. has agreed to pay $6 million to resolve a long-running discrimination suit brought by the EEOC over the national retailer’s use of a criminal background check policy that allegedly discriminated against black applicants and employees.

Under the terms of the consent decree, the settlement funds will be distributed to African Americans who lost their chance at employment with the company between 2004 and 2019. It also requires the company to hire a criminology consultant to develop a new background check program if it chooses to implement one within the three-year decree period. The settlement resolves litigation .
