If you've been searching for a comprehensive list of Christmas and holiday words to incorporate into your classroom art, activities, and projects, look no further. This collection of 100 Christmas, holiday, and winter-themed words will help you expand your students' vocabulary, whether you use them in word walls, puzzles, or fun exercises.

You can use this list to inspire word searches, Hangman and Bingo games, crafts, worksheets, story starters, creative writing word banks, and a variety of elementary lesson plans in almost any subject.

Customize the word list based on your school's policies. For example, some faith-based schools may prefer not to include popular references to Frosty the Snowman or other secular holiday characters.

Types of Word List Activities

There are many ways to use this list of Christmas and winter vocabulary words in your classroom, including:

Word walls: Build vocabulary by designating one wall or part of a wall to large print words that all students can read from their desks.

Word search puzzles: Create word search puzzles using one of several online puzzle generators. This allows you to customize the activity with vocabulary appropriate for your class and according to your school policies.

Sight word flashcards: Make flashcards to improve vocabulary for early elementary students and those with learning disabilities. Building vocabulary using holiday words will help your students with seasonal reading. Holiday words may be more fun for kids to learn and spark an interest in reading.

Hangman: Hangman is an easy way to use words to teach kids. Playing a holiday or winter-themed version of this game can be a fun way to create an interactive break between lessons.

Poem or story written-word exercise: Have students incorporate three or more of these holiday words into a poem or story. You can assign this project to be turned in or shared with the class. Poems may be rhyming or not, or in the form of a limerick or haiku. You can also ask for a minimum word count for written story assignments.

Impromptu speech exercise: Ask students to incorporate one or more words into an impromptu speech that they give to the class. You might have them write the words and then immediately begin a speech using this vocabulary, or you can give them a few minutes to prepare.
